PODCAST
Should we ask Permission?

In this podcast, I share with you, my passion for street photography, while debating the purpose of its existence, and how in recent years street photography has sparked conversation to consider Exploitation Vs. Respect in this creative medium.

I have conducted an interview with Gustavo Escobedo, a professional photographer, who has been teaching Media Arts, Film Studies and Photography for over 13 years. Our conversation, along with my additional commentary tackles the question: Should we ask permission? The essence of Candid photography is that it is a documentation of reality and of life as it unfolds. Therefore asking our subjects for consent can alter the outcome.

However, this topic has been a discussion of debate in the past couple of years due to a rise in popularity of the art, and therefore there are many things to consider when executing street photography. Photographers Vivian Maier, and Bruce Gilden are discussed, as well as the use of black and white, the influence of the photographer, and the responsibility street photographers have to communicate respectfully.
